Driving home this morning I saw something I haven’t seen in nearly a decade:  a hitchhiker.  At 1.30 a.m. there was a hitchhiker on the nearest A road to my home.   Several cars passed this young man, including myself.   He was obviously returning from a night out, in smart casual dress, but I am not sure that anyone would have picked him up.

There are night bus routes in the area, but they terminate at places that a five miles apart and, if you live beyond those terminus points, you have to walk.   I just hope this young man didn’t have to walk too far, though it may benefit him in that if he lives a fair distance away he will be sober by the time he gets home, which may be a good thing.

I was taken aback to see a hitchhiker.   I didn’t think they really existed anymore.
